Turning to face Jesus - Pausing in Psalm 94
This month, we lingered in Psalm 94. Not rushing past the ache, but naming it.
Not bypassing weight of anxious thoughts, but inviting God’s comfort to speak louder.
The psalmist doesn’t hide his anguish—he brings it to God. He names the injustice, the violence, the weight of a broken world. And then, he turns. He lifts his gaze. He remembers who God is.
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
The Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.”
Psalm 94:18-19 AMP
Anxious thoughts don’t just visit—they echo, stack, and ache. But when we pause in His presence, God’s comfort quiets the noise. He brings joy in the middle of the mental mess.
He holds us up when we feel like we can’t stand.
Charles Spurgeon once wrote:
“Never is the soul safer or more at rest than when, all other helpers failing, she leans upon the Lord alone.”
It’s easy to turn first to everything else—friends, plans, habits, control. But Psalm 94 invites us to turn first to God. To lean into His unfailing love. To let His consolation restore joy.
Billy Graham reminds us:
“God is unchanging in His love. He loves you. He has a plan for your life. Don’t let the newspaper headlines frighten you. God is still sovereign; He’s still on the throne.”
Even when the headlines feel heavy, even when our footing feels unsure, God hasn’t changed. His justice, mercy, and steadfast love remain. He is our fortress.
He is our refuge. He is our steady rock when all else feels uncertain.
And so we pray:
Come, Lord Jesus. Come.

🙏 Closing Prayer
Jesus, when my heart turns inward—to fear, to despair, to anxious thoughts—remind me to lift my eyes to You.
You are my fortress. My refuge. My steady rock when all else feels uncertain.
Help me not to dwell in the weight of my circumstances, but to turn my face toward Your glory and grace.
Let Your truth quiet the noise. Let Your love refocus my gaze.
Anchor me in the promise that You are near, You are strong, and You are enough.
Amen.
📖 Looking Ahead
Next month, we begin a new rhythm in Psalm 18:
“I love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer…”
From being held to standing firm.
From refuge to declaration.
Let’s prepare to speak truth with boldness and beauty.
